Discovering History

One of the fascinating aspects of having a historical home is the amazing stories and history that comes with your home and the area. I’m reading a fantastic new book “Astoria, John Jacob Astor and Thomas Jefferson’s Lost Pacific Empire” about the development of the the West Coast from 1809.

The book got me thinking about some of the fun finds we have made at our home. We recently found an old piece of porcelain and an intact 1960s Coke bottle while gardening. Our best piece yet was the Hull vase found in our wood shed under the sand. All this helps us remember that our house is 99 years old but the neighborhood is 200 years old. Pretty amazing.
