One of the wonderful things we love about our beach house is the small town of Ocean Park where it is located. Our small Cape Cod cottage lies on the edge of a development began in 1883. Originally Ocean Park was a Methodist church camp and the first church built in 1883 still stand 2 blocks from our house.
Many of the houses are older and larger than our 1915 cottage. The bed & breakfast across the street called “The George Johnson House” is very large and allegedly the design for the house was made in the sand by a honeymoon couple. They did not realize how large it was until it was built! I love that story.
Please take note- my new neighbor Deb alerted me (thanks Deb!) that HGTV is running 2 episodes on “Beach House Bargain Hunt” tonight on Long Beach and our beloved Ocean Park. I guess we are not a hidden treasure anymore.
Please enjoy these Ocean Park homes- more on the history tomorrow.
